Get to Know Esmina
I have been a social worker for the past 6 years and currently work as a parent mentor for Michigan Alliance for Families, an organization that provides information, education, and support to families who have kids who receive special education services. Aside from my day time job, I am a mom to two boys who are 4 and 2 who keep me very busy! This past year I have really enjoyed gardening and reading. I currently hold a limited license in Social Work.
I came to the United States in 1995 as a refugee from Bosna and Hercegovina. My family settled in South Bend, Indiana and I made that my home at the age of 2. As a first generation high school and college graduate, it was hard for me to navigate college applications, scholarships, and even trying to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I joined ImmiGreatness is to be the person I wish I had when I was leaving high school. To be able to help other students figure out their life goals and to be a person of support for the next generation of immigrants. So that students don’t have to continue to navigate this next change by themselves.
